Ramadan Qur'an Reading Contest 2010/1431
Ramadan will start in less than two weeks, inshaAllah. The Islam Web 2.0's team is pleased to announce this contest which will begin on the 1st day of Ramadan 2010/1431 and end on the last day of the month. It is absolutely free and anyone from anywhere in the world can participate.
"... Vie, then, with one another in doing good works! ..." (Surah Al Ma'idah : Verse 48)
Benefits:
The rewards of reciting the Quran are many. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم has said:
Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” [At-Tirmidhi]
So increase your recitation of the Qur’an to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well. In another hadeeth, ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, relates that the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said:
Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Then, imagine the volume of rewards for reciting the Noble Qur'an in the blessed month of Ramadan. So, even if your reading speed is slow, you must take part in this contest because it will encourage you to be consistent in its recitation everyday.
How does it work?
Very simple. You read the Qur’an at your home. Keep track of the number of Ayat (verses) you recite daily from the Ayat Calculator. At the end of the day, simply inform us the total number of Ayats of the Qur'an you've read so far. Make your entry from the Islam Web 2.0 toolbar's contest menu or from Here.
Islam Web 2.0's team will award three winners who first complete reading the entire Qur'an.
Who wins? And what’s the prize?
Everyone wins, because everyone is rewarded with blessings from Allah! This is the real prize. Besides, the three selected winners will InshaAllah receive the prizes shipped to their addresses. Only Allah knows what the prizes will be but InshaAllah will be something outstandingly significant .
Rules:
- Intentions should be made clear. You are reading the Book of Allah to seek His pleasure and not to grab the prizes. A person's actions are rewarded by his intentions.
- Anyone from anywhere in the world can join.
- You can use anonymous names or your real names.
- We will respect your email privacy.
- Contest officially begins on the first day of Ramadan.
- No lying. If you lie, you've got some serious issues with yourself.
- Recitation in Salah or Taraweeh doesn’t count. You must actually read seeing from the Qur’an.
- You must recite out loud or enough so that your lips are moving and your ears can hear. No silent reading or reading from your mind.
- You must read the Qur’an in Arabic only.
- Reading of Quran should not make any delay in offering your obligatory prayers.
- Begin from Surah al-Fatiha to Surah an-Nas.
- Only include the number of ayat you read from the front to the back. (Example: Do not include the number of ayat if you read Surah Yaseen every day or Surah Kahf every Friday. They do not count.)
- Holding the Qur’an in Taraweeh salah or following the Hafidh does not count.
- Islam Web 2.0 reserves the right to change the rules whenever necessary.

Assalamu Alaikum, Subhanallah! Great News!
If and only if you are a Hafidh of the Qur'an, then you may read the Qur'an in Qiyam, but loud enough so that your ears can hear. Indeed, this is the benefit of the Hafidh. He has the Qur'an in his heart. Please keep all of us in your dua.
I don't understand this rule. Is it a must to download the toolbar or is it enough to just go to the spreadsheet form? I've downloaded the toolbar but took it off because I didn't like it.
No, it is not necessary to download the toolbar. You can merely participate in the contest.
After you have registered, you will get the Ayat Calculator through which you can keep a track of the total number of verses you have read so far.
Then everyday, simply enter the total no. of verses you've read till now in this « Form . And we will update this figure in the Current Standings page.
Very good thing u are doing ... Allah will definitely reward you in this world and in hereafter ... SubhanAllah

2010 year to muslims its 1431 and we don`t care about the destruction of the planet in 2010. please i want some answers! is that truth or not.
Salam. Hijri Calendar is a purely lunar calendar. Because a Hijri year is between 10 and 12 days shorter than a Gregorian year, it begins 10–12 days earlier in the Gregorian year following the Gregorian year in which the previous Hijri year began.
So, both the calendars cannot be exactly correlated with equal difference of years between them. The difference is seen once every 33.58 hijri years, or once every 32.58 Gregorian years.
In answer to your question, the year 2010 CE relates to the Hijri year 1431, but not the entire 2010 (till 6 December 2010).
